A diamond ring from Cindy Chao’s Ribbon Collection sold at the Bonhams Rare Jewels and Jadeite auction in Hong Kong for $1.17 million (HK$9.1 million). The fancy pink-purple 4.23-carat oval-cut diamond is wrapped within a setting of ribbon design, pave-set with brilliant and cushion-cut diamonds. The entire 123-lot auction garnered $7.08 million (HK$55.24 million).
The sale ended with a heated bidding argument for a10.03-carat diamond and coloured diamond ring by British jewellery designer Stephen Webster, which sold for $459,000 (HK$3,580,000).
Bonhams Head of Jewellery, Asia, Graeme Thompson said, “Overall, the sale was very positive with strongest interest from local and global collectors in white colourless diamonds, fine gemstones and rare jewels. Bids came in from around the world including pan-Asia, the Middle East, Europe and America reflecting Hong Kong as an international auction market hub.”
