GIA to Issue $2M in Scholarships

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is offering $2 million in scholarships for 2019 to established and aspiring professionals, says Rapaport. The money is from the GIA Endowment Fund, as well as private donors.

Students interested in registering for the institute’s gemology and jewellery manufacturing-arts programs, distance-education courses and lab classes will be able to get grants. Successful applicants can use the scholarships at the GIA’s schools in Bangkok, California, Dubai, Hong Kong, London, Mumbai, New York, Surat and Taiwan.

“With changing consumer trends and technological advancements in the industry, it is now more important than ever to have professional qualifications,” Duncan Pay, the GIA’s vice president and chief academic officer, said. “These scholarships help people follow their dreams and pursue their passion in gems and jewelry.”

The GIA will accept applications for the scholarships through September 30.
